In couture sewing, there are several steps in creating a finished garment. One of the first, is pattern making. This is often done by draping muslin over a body form in order to create precise shapes and tailoring. Once they have been perfected on the form, they are used as patterns in order to recreate the garment in the final fabric. These first drafts of the garment are called a toile [tou-ahl].

Inspired by this process, Stevennina adapted the concepts, and discovered a unique method of sculpting in bronze.
